Her motivation for dropping by Walters' breezy gabfest? Probably to start the process of getting her "daytime Katie" groove back. When she appeared on The View as a guest in April, she made it clear that she's proud of the work she's done at CBS Evening News as the first female to anchor a network evening news show. But she also missed getting to be the light-hearted and playful morning show host who "flew across [Rockefeller Plaza] as Peter Pan on occasion."
"I think what people have missed for a long time is the Katie who was part of …the Today show and who is big enough to have fun and be serious all in one show," her former Today boss, Jeff Zucker, told CNN's Ali Velshi at a recent broadcast media marketing conference. Zucker plans to incorporate all her talents when he reunites with Couric to produce her new show, too.
"That’s what her brand is," he says. "It’s a brand that has credibility and fun. Our hope is we take that into that program. It’s a tremendous opportunity.”
In the meantime, cohosting The View ain't bad, either.
