Thought announcing the Emmy nominations was just a matter of reading a list of names at a podium? Not by a long shot.
This Thursday morning (at 5:35 a.m. PT/8:35 a.m. ET), Mike & Molly star (and Bridesmaids scene-stealer) Melissa McCarthy, 40, will announce the 63rd Primetime Emmy nods alongside Fringe's Joshua Jackson. In a newly released promo clip, McCarthy asks last year's Emmy announcement reader, Community's Joel McHale, 39, to help prepare her for the job -- and the results are hilarious. The deviously funny McHale seizes the opportunity to get his laundry folded, watch McCarthy chase a chicken around (a la Rocky), use her face as a punching bag (literally), and channel Karate Kid's Mr. Miyagi by having Melissa learn to "wax on, wax off" while washing his car. As she's put through these ridiculous paces, McCarthy learns valuable lessons like: 1) Make sure you know how to pronounce Mariska Hargitay's name and 2) Don't betray emotion (even if an adorable puppy is thrust in your face).
McCarthy does a fine job, and she thanks McHale profusely for his help before he orders her to get out of his car. But will she be able to maintain such calm during the actual announcement? If she has to say McHale's name -- or her own, for that matter -- that might be a problem.
Jane Lynch is set to host this year's Emmy Awards, which air Sept. 18 on FOX.
